Irving Shapiro, MA, AWS
An internationally known watercolorist, educator and former head of the American Academy of Art....was with the school for more than a half-century.
He taught several subjects, from painting fundamentals to graphic design, focusing on watercolors for the last 25 years. During the 1970s and into the 1980s, he served as director-president of the academy. Mr. Shapiro's own watercolor paintings, mostly land and seascapes, have been exhibited in galleries across the nation and abroad, including Europe and in China. In 1985, Mayor Harold Washington presented visiting President Li Xiannian of China with a number of the artist's works of Chicago landmarks. Many of his paintings hang in private and corporate collections.
Mr. Shapiro's many honors include:

Artist Achievement Award in Watercolors from American Artist Magazine.

Mary Litt Medal given by the American Watercolor Society.

National Academy of Design's Henry Ward Ranger Award.
His instructional book, How to Make a Painting, Planning, Procedures and Techniques in Watercolor, had been translated into eight languages. He also conducted seminars on his craft in Italy, France and Switzerland.
Mr. Shapiro attended the American Academy of Art, Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and Art Institute of Chicago. He was a member of the Palette and Chisel Academy of Art, Municipal Art League of Chicago and Midwest Watercolor Society.
Butch Krieger, MA
A full-time artist for over thirty years, the first 18 of those years were as a television news artist, specializing in courtroom illustrations. Clientele included CBS Network News, CNN and PM Magazine, as well as the Associated Press, United Press International, USA Today and the German news magazine, Neue Review.
In using modern adaptations of what is called "the old masters technique," which is also called "indirect technique" in his paintings, Krieger builds up a painting in cumulative layers of paint, he takes full advantage of modern materials in a variety of mediums. He does most of his commissioned portraits in Genesis heat-set oils. Krieger prefers to be innovative and eclectic choosing work that is different from the run-of-the-mill portraiture.
As a portrait painter and sculptor, as well as a figure and tromp l’oeil still life painter, he has done many portraits of cowboy celebrities.A writer and workshop instructor, he writes for Artist’s Magazine. ( Contributing Editor), Pastel Journal, Watercolor Magic, The Portrait Signature (the quarterly journal of the American Society of Portrait Artists) and for North Light Books. His latest book, Watercolor Basics: People is available through your local bookstore.

Osral Allred, BFA, MFA
Osral Allred, watercolor artist, is from the rural town of Spring City, Utah. His surroundings are his favorite subjects, that include the elderly, buildings and machinery. Allred taught at Snow College, retiring in 2000, where he taught beginning and intermediate drawing, design, art history, pottery, and jewelry classes. He has a private studio in the upstairs of his home, and an art gallery "The Allred Station Art Gallery" in Spring City. He also teaches workshops.
Allred attended Snow College and Brigham Young University. He then went to Utah State University, graduated 1963 earning a BFA, in 1968 MFA.
